Biomedical science

Is uni of Reading, Surrey, or Portsmouth better for biomedical science? In terms of getting a better job, better connections, more support, etc?

I’ve noticed all these courses are IBMS accredited, do you want to be a Biomedical Scientist by any chance?

I’m not too sure yet, I’m applying to all IBMs accredited unis to keep my options open in case I do want to be a biomedical scientist

Well, I can say if you want to be a BMS, where you attend university doesn’t matter as the NHS just needs to ensure that you meet their standards (IBMS accredited degree and you have HCPC membership) - If you want to know what this means, please let me know and I can elaborate (I’m a trainee BMS in clinical chemistry).

With regards to your questions specifically, I can’t really say much about prospects with regards to better support or connections but jobs won’t be affected too much I would say as with jobs, a lot of it is based on experience which is primarily based on luck at the beginning but then after that, tactful applications (getting your first lab based job is an absolute headache).

Happy to answer any questions you have, so please don’t hesitate (I didn’t attend any of the universities you listed as I attended UWE) but I’ll do what I can with regards to my experience on the course (which from what I gather was a little different to my colleagues as I have asked them and a lot of their history was based on essays whereas mine seemed to be case study (theoretical patient) based scenarios).
