what is the best way to revise? - A-Levels

Hey guys I just wanted to ask for your tips on how to revise for topic tests/a levels in general - it lowkey feels like I completely forgot how to revise over the summer and I have been struggling in class so much, I know I can do it but I just don't know how and I feel awful atm so I would appreciate any tips. For reference I am doing Bio, chem and maths for a level

Thanks!

Hi @theoneandonly#2

I didn't personally study those subjects at a-level but I do have a few general tips that you might find useful in this previous post I did Revision Techniques That Helped Me - The Student Room

I would say great ways to learn content are practice papers or practice question plans. Flashcards. Reading the textbooks and making mind maps. There are lots of ways, so it is important to take the time to find what works for you.

You could even ask your teachers for ideas from what past students have done.

I hope this helps

For bio you need to do a lot of active recall and space it out, cramming is seriously not an option with the volume of content youre expected to recall! Anything like quizzes, kahoots, flashcards, teaching others, blurting etc is great and make sure to switch it up regularly! Exam style questions are also super important for bio cos the markschemes can be picky so make sure to mark them and maybe learn structures for a few question types.
For maths the key thing is basically just lots and lots of practice, if youre stuck on a topic then theres channels like BicenMaths which are excellent and then just spam practice questions on sites like drfrost. For applied especially, you want to be doing past paper questions for your own exam board cos often the same style of questions but with different numbers or scenarios tend to come up.

Hello, I studied Biology :wavey:

To add to DerDracogloge's points, I recommend when you're marking exam questions to write the correct answer in a completely different colour pen so it's clear to see. Then re-word for flashcards using the correct answer from the mark scheme. This means you're learning the content how the examiner's want you so you're not missing out on any key words of the mark scheme when learning the content. The mark schemes are so specific that just knowing the content isn't enough so this technique helps you to learn what the mark scheme's looking for too.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your advice @always-anxious @DerDracologe , I think I'll try out active recall flashcards for revising for the topic tests coming up and ppqs and see how it goes )
