Hello, If I were to do a degree apprentiship as an undergraduate student will I be able to do a post graduate degree related to my previous degree? and will I be able to do one at an elite university (like cambridge)?

Yes, but for example understand the difference between computer science from a university with lots of pure maths contents and software engineering.

Hi there,

That’s a really good question, and the short answer is yes, completing a degree apprenticeship absolutely can lead you on to postgraduate study, including at top universities such as Cambridge, provided you meet their entry requirements for the course.

At London South Bank University (LSBU), our Degree Apprenticeships combine full-time paid employment with part-time university study, meaning you earn a recognised undergraduate degree (for example, a BEng, BA, or BSc) that’s identical in academic level to a traditional degree. The main difference is that you’re also gaining professional work experience as part of your qualification, which can be a huge advantage when applying for postgraduate programmes or higher-level professional training later on.

Many LSBU apprentices go on to postgraduate degrees such as Master’s in Engineering, Computing, Digital and Healthcare. Because degree apprenticeships are full honours degrees, they’re fully recognised by all UK universities, including elite institutions, as valid qualifications for postgraduate entry.

When applying to universities like Cambridge, Oxford, or Imperial, your academic performance (such as achieving a strong classification, usually a 2:1 or above), your work experience, and your personal statement or research interest will carry the most weight. In fact, your real-world experience from an apprenticeship can sometimes give you an edge, as it demonstrates maturity, commitment, and practical knowledge of your field.

At LSBU, we offer a range of degree apprenticeships across fields such as Engineering, Health, Digital and Computing, all designed with professional accreditations and employer partnerships in mind. You can check them out on the LSBU website or speak with our Apprenticeships Team during our Open Day on Saturday 15th November, where they’ll be happy to explain how you can progress from an apprenticeship to postgraduate study.

👉 You can sign up here: LSBU Open Day.
👉 You can also chat with our students through our Unibuddy platform: Chat with our students.

So, to summarise yes, you can move on to a postgraduate degree after completing a degree apprenticeship, even at top universities. What matters most is your results, experience, and motivation all of which a degree apprenticeship at LSBU will help you build.

Hello,

Yes, a degree apprenticeship gives you the same future opportunities a normal degree does, including postgraduate courses in elite and Russell group universities, though probably depending on your degree classification (e.g., 2.1)😊.

All the best
