Don't know what to study for

I am not yet in Uni, but I'm interested and want to learn the contents of the Uni math courses, however I also feel like I should actually practice, like STEP and MAT, to be able to get into a good university, but also I havent even done my GCSEs yet and so I am very conflicted on what to do

Take things one step at a time. Focus on your GCSEs first, then your A-Levels. You'll have plenty of time to do so with over 10 weeks off after A-Levels are done. Don't stress over things which are quite far off. You'll be fine if you work hard now at GCSE Maths and if you manage to do A-Level Maths as well.

Thank you for ur advice, but I perhaps should have mentioned this on my post, I have basically done all of GCSE and A Level maths and further maths content and am well versed in both of them. The issue i have is whether I should 1) practice entrance exams, 2) practice UKMT stuff, like SMC(I also forgot to say this, sorry) or 3) go on reading about the uni content, as i have to spend a lot of time revising for other GCSE subjects and wont have time to do all 3

I think you should focus on your other GCSEs for now because even if you are very good at maths having more 9s at GCSEs will open more doors for you. Don't sacrifice your GCSE performance in any subject for these other things which should just be extra.

Beyond that I would say things like UKMT and SMC and other olympiads/challenges will look great to unis and practicing now and maybe getting to a place where you qualify for BMO in senior years would put you in a great place. It shows lateral thinking and problem solving.

If you want to study maths at uni maybe also think about just researching courses and seeing what types interest you, but you have lots of time to do this so don't sacrifice time to do this.

I admire the ambition but you have the opportunity at this age to do some much more with your time than study, enjoy it!

Does your school allow you to take GCSE Maths and potentially even A-Level Maths early? I knew some people at my school who were well-equipped with the skills and knowledge required to pass the exams at an earlier age than their peers. It might be worth discussing this with your Head of Mathematics teacher or department if you feel strongly that you can do it. That way, you can also get this subject out of the way and focus more time on other subjects once your GCSEs roll around.

Hope this helps,

Spend time revising for other GCSE subjects.
