my friend is!! its such an exciting course and better than just psych on its own as you arent taught random irrelevant waffle like how we are

and dont worry about not knowing anything, many people study psych without ever taking it before. you just need to be prepared mentally to take alot of notes, have chatgpt on the side so you can quickly look up definitions and theories incase the professors dont clarify

Hello,

It’s normal to feel like this on your first year but rest assured there’s no need to stress, psychology is a really interesting subject and you will enjoy your time studying it 😊. Just take and process the information day by day and step by step.

All the best

Hi there.

I study BSc Psychology and Criminology, not quite the same as you but still similar!

My top tips for starting a new course at university would be to go into it with an open mind and try put yourself out there. Try and answer questions when you can, get involved in discussions and ask questions or for more explanation on things if you don't understand. It's okay to get questions wrong or not quite get things straight away, it's the trying that counts and all part of the learning process - you are there to learn after all 😊

I'd also say to get to know your lecturers, don't be afraid to stop for a quick chat at the end of lectures if you have some more questions, and take advantage of any chances to get feedback on your work. We are able to book in for 1:1 meetings with our lecturers to discuss the content and get advice if we ever need to which I find really helps me!

First year is all about settling in and learning the base level stuff to give you a good foundation knowledge to build off. Even if you haven't studied psychology before, there's no need to worry as you will learn about all the core content to get everyone on the course to the same level of understanding.

Trust the process, push yourself to get involved as much as possible and enjoy learning about these fab new subjects 😄

All the best.
