Veterinary Medicine Interview - University of Surrey

Hi all,

In the past hour I have been invited to an online interview at the University of Surrey for Veterinary Medicine between the 6th of November and the 10th of November.

I thought that I might create a thread where fellow vet med applicants for 2026 could share their words of wisdom and help one another with interview prep. Firstly, could someone out there please tell me the format of the interview and possible topics/questions that could come up.

Cheers

Hey 👋 I have. I really wanna know, for each question, if we finish our answer before the 4 minutes are up, do we have an option to end the recording early or do we have to sit there really awkwardly 😩😩??

Did you get an email invite, or did it just show up on the Surrey portal?

On the website you click ‘view details’ then ‘respond to invitation’ I believe.

I think we might have to sit there awkwardly. I'm only basing this off what a surrey student told me when she did her interview 4 years ago, so it might have changed. 🙂

Is it better to sit the interview earlier in the time period? Is that an advantage?

I don’t really understand when we have to do the interview; is it at any point on the day selected or is it at any point between the 6th and the 10th??

I think they mean anytime within that period. So any point between 6-10

They wouldn't allow people to share the questions but the people I talked to emphasized that its unexpected and nothing you can prepare for so most likely responding to scenarios. They also said the questions didn't really have a right answer as long as you can justify and speak with confidence. The surrey email also says they discourage external preparation and courses.

Hi, has anybody done the interview yet? How did it go?

I haven’t done it yet, but I did manage to login and test

Hiya! I think try and talk as much as you can to the end of the four minutes, it's not like you have to say it all in one breath, like talk as if you had an interviewer in front of you, pause from time to time because realistically sometimes interviewers would ask questions in between applicant answers, but bcs for surrey we are answering to a camera, it's a bit harder. So I would say try and talk to the end of the 4 minutes, but if you finish a bit earlier, sit tight, review your answer in your head in case you think you want to add anything and say something like, 'oh in addition to what I said earlier about (XYZ), I did...'. So yeah that's my recommendation. Best of luck
