History A level dilemma

Hi, I’m about 2 months into year 12 and really stressed about history A level. I study
Challenge and transformation and international relations. However, I find challenge and transformation EXTREMELY boring and my international relations teacher is so bad that I couldn’t even tell you what we’ve been studying.

I’m therefore thinking of swapping history to business and if I want to do this I have to swap now.

My pros of dropping History:
-I did business GCSE and got a 9 so I think my school will let me take it up late as I’m pretty sure they’ve only covered GCSE content so far.
-I’m literally finding it so stressful with this rubbish teacher and boring topic so I think I need to protect my mental health. A levels are 2 years of my life and I have to enjoy them.
-Im sure I can get at least an A in business which is important to me as I think I want to apply for Cambridge, whereas I’m less confident for History.

Cons of dropping history:
-I adored history GCSE and got a 9.
-I did find business at GCSE level dull and repetitive, is it more engaging at a level?
-History is a big part of who I am. I feel quite disappointed in myself for wanting to drop it as everyone knows I’m the girl who loves history. I was going to study it at university until recently but now I’m more considering political science/politics/politics and sociology/HSPS etc…
-I’m worried about how people perceive business a level compared to history? How much more is history respected? Or is my overall grade more important than the actual a level subject itself?

Anyway I’m mostly looking for advice on whether business is a good a level or if I should stick with history. If anyone who swapped a levels at this point in the year has any advice or opinions that would be great 😊 also sorry for the rant 😅

hi Lottie, it doesn't matter how business or history are perceived as more or less respectable, when it comes to applying to university it matters more about the grade you got for UCAS points and if at least one of your a-levels is relevant to the degree you are applying to. I understand that you feel more attached to history but if you really don't enjoy it then I think it will be a difficult two years. I stuck out my biology a-level that I really didn't enjoy and it was a very long and hard two years and my final grade ended up reflecting it even though it used to be my best subject. So my personal advice it to drop a subject you really don't enjoy or see if you could transfer classes as I know this can be an option sometimes.

Best of luck,
