Lancaster Uni Major/Minor System

Hi, I’ve read online the Lancaster has a Major/Minor system more similar to in the US where you can pick a second subject to minor in your first year, chosen once you start studying at the uni. I’m planning to apply for 2026 entry for Maths with a placement year. What subjects are typically offered as “minors”, and what standard are they taught to? I read somewhere online that it’s roughly the equivalent of an A-Level.

If anyone who has attended Lancaster (or any Student Reps 🫣) has any more information I’d love to know!

Thanks,
Ava

Hi Ava!

Next year Lancaster is going to make major changes to a lot of course structures, in a process called the Curriculum Transformation Program! We are moving into a semester based term with assesments possible after christmas and summer rather than just summer. (Looking forward to the change!!)

I don't know the specifics for Maths, however I believe as a result of this change the uni is scrapping the Major-Minor System from next year! In its place I believe they are increasing the subject related modules.

Hope this explains whats happening, but if you have any further questions I'd be happy to help!
