Hey everyone,
I really need some honest advice from anyone who has actually gone through this.
I’m currently in Year 12 in Sharjah, studying the Edexcel curriculum. I joined my new school a bit late (around two weeks after Term 1 started), and since the school is really strict with academics, they’ve made me do all three subjects (9 papers total) together in May/June.
Just last week, they told me I could sit Maths Paper 1 in January, which sounded great at first because it would reduce some pressure. But now, that’s actually what’s making me confused and stressed — if I register and pay for the January exam (which I’d have to do by mid-November), I won’t be able to leave the school after Term 1, since I’d be tied to that exam.
So now I have two options:
1️⃣ Transfer back to my old school after Term 1 and sit all 9 papers (3 subjects × 3 papers) together in May/June.
2️⃣ Stay here, do the January Maths Paper 1, and then the rest in May/June.
The problem is… I’m genuinely unhappy here. The environment doesn’t feel right. I miss my old school so much — the teachers, the atmosphere, even the way the system worked. I can’t focus here. The new school has a lot of free lessons (which sounds nice, but I really can’t study properly in school), and I feel disconnected from everyone.
Even though two of my old friends are here, I still feel out of place. It’s a mixed school, and personally I find it really distracting. I’ve tried to settle in, but it just doesn’t feel like home. Every single day I think about my old school — it’s always on my mind, and it’s making me lose focus on studying.
I’m scared that if I stay here, I’ll just keep feeling lost. I know it might sound dramatic, but I genuinely feel like I belong at my old school. I don’t know if they’ll accept me back after Term 1, but if not, I’m desperate to go back for Year 13 no matter what.
Please, if anyone has transferred schools mid-Year 12 in the UAE, especially while doing Edexcel, I need your help.
How did it go for you? Did the new school accept you easily? Were there any issues with exam registration or subjects?
