The great year 11 lock in!!!

hello!!
Thought I'd start this just as a way to keep myself accountable and stop procrastinating for those 8s and 9s. 😮*💨

A bit about me:

I take
Spanish
History
RS
PE
triple higher sciences
maths
the englishes

I would definitely consider myself a humanities person as opposed to stem but I am trying to do well on all subjects (except PE, that one's a lost cause im afraid).
Probably the right time to start thinking about A levels, as options are right around the corner, so I was thinking about doing Spanish, (ancient?) history and politics, and I would hopefully progress into law or something of the sort.

I currently do badminton and tennis twice a week and go to gym often (to make sure that I can actually run by my PE practical assessment).

I am currently reading Babel and I thoroughly enjoy the philosophical side of languages (and their study) presented throughout so far and I would wholly recommend to anyone interested in linguistics (or who enjoy a good 19th century story, the plot is very well-written).

Anyone in the same boat as me looking to join in, share tips or simply follow along, please do!!

Good luck with your lock in! I wanted to ask if you've started your PEP coursework bc I'm taking PE too and have yet to start 😭

thank you so much!! I've got 14 minutes (specific I know) left of my 14 hours and I'm pretty much done save for some last minute checks. I've found it's pretty good if you stick to your mark scheme and ask ur teacher whenever you need explaining. What exam board are you?

It's been okay, although I haven't done much yet. What sports are you doing?

So I'm not sure how often I'm meant to update this..

Throughout the half term I've been revising for a Macbeth assessment (which is tomorrow), which hasn't been easy as I've had to essentially relearn most of it because of simply me forgetting what I was taught and the fact that my old teacher had a very different style of teaching and it's just taken up to now for me to actually wrap my head around the play. Right now, I'm hoping for anything about Gender, religion (as they're quite broad themes) or Banquo, so I can ramble about his potential flaws and hopefully gain some evaluative marks. I am realising now that I enjoy the play a lot more than I thought I would and that it's really not too long or scary as I might've once thought around this time last year- I'm slowly relearning to love english again which is great.

I thought it went quite well honestly!! I definitely don't regret reading through the whole play as I was quite familiar with the analysing of the extract (though I probably should've added in a few more techniques but I digress). The whole play analysis threw me a bit with the wording of the question but it was one of those where it looks tricky but actually can link to quite a few other themes which was great!!

wait no way i take all the same subjects as you! im currently procrastinating for handing in my pe nea (mines on tennis), but good luck for the 8s and 9s! you can for sure do this! i also am thinking about going into law, since i really love humamities (but im also thinking of studying ppe, so not sure yet). Im thinking of taking maths, politics/history and philosophy for a levels. I'm so scared for pe tho, because my teacher tells me im in the top 3 for my class and i usually get 8s and 9s, but last week i got back my anatomy test and i got a 4 😭. my teacher says it should be okay even if i get 0 marks on that section in the exam, but im also scared i'll fail my practical - my sports are tennis, netball and rock climbing... (I might have to do badminton or athletics/cross country instead of tennis tho)

that's so cool!! PPE is such a cool degree and I wish you the very best of luck in achieving it. I just handed in my nea last week and it was so stressful even though I knew what I was doing?? I think it's just something about it actually counting towards the final grade that makes it so nerve-wracking. I've had to switch sports from athletics to netball because I didn't get enough evidence for my events (if I could go back in time..) but to be honest I don't mind that much because netball is my 3rd sport anyway. We've both got this!!!

Hi can I ask what skills you plan on recording for your sports, and how difficult each one is

well, for tennis, i take private lessons at a club so with my instructor im filming serves, backhand and forehand and rallies for both, volleys (for and backhand) and then i think i also need to get some actual match context, but i'm not sure when that will happen.
for rock climbing, i went on a school trip/training thing for it last year, so i had to film how high i could climb, the most difficult level wall i could complete, the wall i could show the best technique for, and also traversing.
I haven't done netball yet tho, i think my school will give me an estimated score, and then on the day the moderators come in, they'll organise a match with the people taking netball! hope this helps

my nea was so scary to hand in, but i ended up with 15 pages, so im pretty happy (i do aqa for pe btw)

hello, im currently in yr 12 and the only advice i can give is to RINSE pmt, just keep doing it, cos eventually the exam technique will be so emebdded that getting good grades become sm easier. i lowk struggled at the start w managing everything, so this helped me alo, but tbf i also went tutoring to these ppl in the year above and they helped me a lot, i can pass details iyw? imo it was worth it (got all 9s), so just have a look around and see what works for you? good luck!!

ahhh you're so helpful!! sciences are my worst by far and I always knew pmt was a resource but I never really used it that much if that makes sense so I'm really really glad you've suggested that. thank you!!!

I've been feeling slightly demotivated recently in the sense that feel that I have too little time to learn too much content, as well as the fact that every day seems to be merging into one and my whole life's now revolving around school. I knew before that year 11 would be a step up from the usual, but for now, I'm trying to take everything as it comes.
In other news, my preparation for the mock language orals is beginning- which will hopefully go well though I severely need to work on not sounding so english whilst I speak, my accent isn't bad, but my R's are horrific, (even I slightly cringe myself out when speaking, I can only imagine what my teacher must think!) but I'm trying to immerse myself in the language: music, I've found, is incredibly useful for hearing different accents and getting used to the overall flow of the language.
Ciao for now 🤩
