Status-migrant worker to home student. Late update

Hello everyone, I am on my last year months of uni, received all the payments from st loan and about to finish my studies. I originally applied as a migrant worker and been always employed but one month ago I left my job. I granted settled status one year ago but I forgot to update this on my profile until now, but yesterday I sent the evidence through “upload evidence” . This is giving me anxiety because I left my job before to update my residency status. Will I be in trouble? Thank you for your time reading

Hi there,

As long as you have sent your share code for your settled status then you should be okay. When did you send this to us?

Thanks, Drew

Hi Drew, first of all thank you so much for you help, it is truly useful!
So, I granted settled status in october 2024 last year. My final year at uni started on february 2025,. I uploaded the home office letter along with a share code in my self written request on 31 october 2025 few days ago. I left my employment in september 2025 few months ago. I uploaded these documents using “upload evidence” through my profile online because I have read the guidance on the website, I was not contacted or asked to do it. Thank you!!

Hi Fedix84,

That should be fine as long as there are no gaps. Our current processing timescales are approximately 25 working days with subject to change depending on our current volumes. If you monitor your account and email, you will be updated there for you.

Hi Clare, thanks for your answer. I just need more clarification, what kind of gaps? About the settled status? Employment? Thank you

Hi there, this would be gaps in your employment, once the evidence you have submitted has been reviewed, if there is any issues, we will always contact you to advise, but please allow the time for the review. Thanks, Stephen

Hi, would be a gap even though I was granted settled status prior starting my final year? Because technically I would be home student from october 2024 and my final year started on february 2025… I know I should have updated this before but I ve been in a very difficult time and I did not think about it

Hi there, at present we would need to await the review of the evidence you have submitted. If you meet the required criteria, (which it sounds like) then there should be no issue, however, this is only something the actual assessment team can advise, once your documentation has be validated. Thank you so much Stephen. I have anxiety disorder and my situation is a bit complicated at the moment. Can I ask you one last thing? As the slc sent me an email already to know about my employment status, and at the moment I had to state I am unemployed, staying in uk and living on my savings. I have also another issue, I am living in temporary accommodation such airbnb and friends so not fixed address, do not have a tenancy, will I be in trouble for this if I was asked for proof of address or something else? Thank you so much again

Hi there,

Since you currently have Settled Status, it's okay to tell us that you're not currently employed. Once we have proof of your Settled Status you'll no longer be a Migrant Worker anyway, so this shouldn't matter.

Being in temporary accommodation is fine, too.

Thanks, Graeme
