My Experience in the Digital Making Workshop as a Kingston Fashion Student

One of my favourite things about being a student at Kingston School of Art is the Open Access Workshops that I get to utilise🤭.
It is seldom you ever find a fashion student in the 3D making workshops but it being my final year in Kingston, I really wanted to make full use of the Digital Making Facilities.

The digital making facilities at Kingston include methods like laser cutting, 3D printing, resin printing and engraving. I really wanted to use laser cutting and engraving techniques in my work and have started creating some test samples on different fabrics. I hope to make some bags, small accessories and little buttons on the laser cutting and engraving machines 😙.

The process is pretty simple, all I have to do is complete my induction and book a consultation with the technicians. The most fun part of the process is experimenting with different materials and seeing the results 🤩! That said, it is a long process and it is important to source the right materials and adjust my file accordingly to ensure the best results! The services are pretty affordable and are charged for £2.50 for 30mins on the machine.

What would you do if you have access to the digital making workshops?
