simply because no one else has replied, i will:biggrin:
you will be better off posting this in a more relevant area, ie the investment banking and consultancy/ careers section- you're more likely to get a response

Your priority is to get started with your degree. Get VERY high grades first. Then find a job with an IB - which will lead you to your goals.

Or you could just oil from the street and resell it to somebody at higher price. Job done. for this you do not need any degree. :yep:

You need certain attributes as a person, as well as intellectual knowledge.

My friend who I was at Uni with got a 2:2 in Business Economics and went straight into a job as an oil trader (two years later he has two people under him, and a nice Mercedes).

He's got the so called "gift of the gab" - a certain amount of which you need in trading, as well as the ability to make quick decisions.

Secondly, (and probably more importantly) he did a summer internship at a major international oil company in which he excelled.

Experience is key in getting such a position - Any experience you can get in a related industry (trading, finance, futures, oil production) will be vital.

going to brunel may be a problem as it's not the best uni but as long as you come out with a first with some internships and have the drive to succeed then there's a small chance you might make it

Get an education. While a bachelor's degree is not absolutely required to trade commodities, it is almost essential to getting a job with a reputable firm. Also, much of what you learn in your classes can be directly applied to your future career. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, many traders choose to major in a field closely related to commodities trading, such as economics, business, or agriculture. If you have an idea of what kind of commodities you want to trade--for example, oil and natural gas--build your class schedule around this goal.
