will i find people like me at bath/bristol

Hello,
I have a very specific question for you today: how likely is it that I will find people similar to me at bristol/bath?
I’ll be studying biology and I really liked the campus at bristol however I’m a bit torn about the social life aspect - I feel like the difference in the nightlife is pretty stark?
Basically here is my personality and I’d love your opinion on where I might fit in best!
I have always lived in the countryside and love a good walk/hike/camp
I enjoy sailing
I’m excited to do some clubbing but I don’t suspect it will be a routine thing

Basically, is Bath nightlife so nonexistent that it should deter me from the uni? (probably not but again, I’d love to hear your opinions)

Hi @ella123444

I hope you are well! University brings together many students from a huge variety of different backgrounds and places. There will be people that absolutely love going out and will be doing just that every weekend however, there will 100% be people like you who will go out here and there but perhaps enjoy other things such as hiking, and getting outdoors.

I do not know much about the nightlife in Bath but have heard lots of good things about the nightlife in Bristol, I think the city is quite renowned for its party scene. My best advice to meet new people when you start uni would be to join a society that takes your interest, or more than one society if you wish! I can bank on the fact now that there will be a society that includes walking/hiking and most likely a sailing society, especially in Bristol as it is close to a lot of water! Joining societies will mean you meet lots of new people that share a common interest with you. You are most likely to find your type of people in these environments!

Hopefully there will be some ambassadors from both Bristol and Bath that can give you some more advice from their own experience but I just want to reassure you that you will meet people that enjoy similar things to you. Sometimes it might take abit longer than expected but certainly do not get put off by that as it is very common. You just need to put yourself out there at uni and take advantage of as many opportunities as possible and the rewards will come thick and fast!

Let me know if you have any other questions, I am more than happy to help! Good luck with everything also.

Thanks, Matt 🙂

Hi there!

I'm currently a third year student at the University of Bath

At Bath, we offer over 70 different sports societies- one of them including sailing. So with this society, you'll definitely find like-minded people.

Bath may be smaller when compared to Bristol however we have many great pubs, nightclubs and social events for a fun night out! There is always opportunities to travel to Bristol if you really want to check out the nightlife there!😊

As well as the nightlife, Bath has some amazing walks and nature around the city. We have many historical landmarks and beautiful country walk as well. There is a mountaineering society at Bath who do a variety of walks and hikes all around the surrounding areas so definitely check that out.

What helped me make my decision, was list all the factors that were important to me - ie city vs campus universities, course structure, city life, community feel etc...

Good luck with your decision and I hope that helps!

My daughter was the same and she chose Bath over Bristol and has been so happy there. There is plenty to do if you want to take part but equally if you want lovely walks, scenery, coffees in the beautiful surroundings then Bath is perfect

Have a look at what societies each uni offers, those will give you a general indication of the interests of the student body and what opportunities to meet new people will be available to you

Hi, I'm also interested in studying biology at Bath or Bristol, but when I visited Bath I didn't get the chance to see the biology department. Did you ever visit and if so how was it, as I know the departments/buildings at other unis like Bristol are so modern and Bath is less, i think since its not Russel so doesn't prioritise research. But I'm just really worried about how the labs are and facilities
Also I don't have any experience but I'm sure you'll find people with similar interests, like I'm from the city but love walks/hikes and loads of people I know do as well even though we have less access to it, so there's probably people similar who will go to Bath/Bristol
