Is anyone else finding it difficult to connect with people and make friends

A lot of people struggle with this, I’m sorry to hear that this is affecting you :console:
Are you at uni? If so i suggest you join some societies to meet people with common interests on a regular basis

Hey there!

Sorry to hear you are feeling like this, but be reassured that it is a very normal feeling to have!

As has already been suggested, joining societies or clubs is a great way to start! You can join in with something you already enjoy or try something new! I would also suggest chatting to your academic advisor about how you are feeling, they aren't just there for academic concerns, they can help you feel more connected with people on your course on in your school too. You can also reach out to the SIZ, they can help you from a wellbeing perspective, and they also offer lots of opportunities to meet new people like their Take 5 events, where you can play board games and occasionally Mario Kart too!

Please let me know if you need any other ideas or just other people at uni to speak to, I can point you in the right direction! Good luck, the right people will come along, keep putting yourself out there and being brave, you'll find your way!

Hi,

You’re definitely not alone, many people struggle to connect and make friends, especially at first. Joining societies or events is a great idea, as it gives you regular opportunities to meet people with similar interests. Even small steps, like talking to classmates after lectures, during breaks or joining online course groups, can help build connections over time.

It can take a little while so try not to be too hard on yourself, you’ll find your people.

Wishing you all the best,

Hey!
You’re definitely not alone a lot of people feel that way, especially during the first few weeks or even months at uni. It can take a bit of time to find “your people,” and that’s totally normal.
At UEA, I’ve found that everyone’s really friendly once you start talking to them sometimes it just takes one small step, like chatting with someone after a seminar or joining a society that interests you. There are loads of clubs, film screenings, and social events that make it easier to meet people who share your interests.
Try not to put too much pressure on yourself friendships at uni often form naturally over time. And remember, even if it feels like everyone else already has their group, most people are still figuring it out too. 💛

Hi there, you’re definitely not alone.

A lot of students feel this way at different points, even if it doesn’t look like it from the outside. Settling in and finding your people can take time.

What usually helps is joining one or two smaller societies or events where you see the same faces regularly. It makes conversations feel more natural and less forced. And if you ever want to talk through what’s going on for you, the student support team at UEA is genuinely good and very used to helping with this.

Best,
Daniel
