Help - do I drop my AS level?

Hi, I’m y12 and I’m currently taking double maths, econ and geography at A-level and an AS level in latin
Backstory here - I was supposed to take latin instead of geography (so just do 4 A-levels) but fm & latin are in the same option block at my school so I couldn’t. However, I was told I could do AS latin in my frees (would have assignments marked + given the resources but I’d have to teach myself).
It’s now Nov and I’m starting to reconsider. All the class tests have been on language so far which I’m doing well in and enjoying, but the literature work is hard to self-teach. On top of that I’ve been finding one of the literature teachers pretty unfriendly (despite the fact I’ve never badgered her or asked her to mark anything for me) whilst the others are really nice and hopeful that I’ll keep it up to do the whole A level - they only have a couple of students taking latin this year.

I’m honestly not sure what to do! I can’t drop any of my main 4 A level subjects - but I also feel bad about letting the other two latin teachers down if I quit now…. help!

Are you struggling with workload?
What do you aim to do after sixth form?

Slightly - but I’m more worried about the workload later this year :frown:
I’m thinking finance so I don’t need latin… but also slightly reluctant to give it up as I’ve been doing it for a long time

Doing the equivalent work of 5 a levels will significantly increase your workload because of how much time in your frees youll have to spend self-teaching and revising.
Have you considered starting a languages club or similar at your school or maybe teaching Latin to younger students so you can continue it?

I was in the same position as you - I didn’t want to let down my teachers by dropping my 4th a level. But I decided that my mental health and coping with the work load was FAR more important than a couple of teachers being slightly disappointed. After your A levels, you won’t see your teachers again so, although you may like them, don’t go out of your way to impress teachers who do t even teach you. If you really like Latin, then it’s up to you but no university will include it in your offer or will be impressed that you did it. If you want to go to a top uni, focus on super-curricular like reading and work experience.
