I am currently on a gap year waiting to start at the university of york to study neuroscience!😬🧠

I hope you are well! I took a gap year before starting uni and felt the same way that you have mentioned. I thought I would be one of very few people that took a gap year and therefore I would feel older/out of place when I got to uni. However, I can confidently say to you that you will not be the only one that has taken a gap year before going to uni and you will certainly meet people that did the same and that are the same age as you!
Within the first couple of weeks at LJMU, I had developed a very good friend group, all of which had taken a year out exactly the same as me! You will find there is a pretty equal mixture between people who went straight to uni and people who took a gap year. In all honesty, no one is bothered by the fact that you might be a year older because you took a gap year, I have met people who are a year younger, the same age, and even a year or 2 older and you never give it a second thought!
What have you been up to on your gap year so far? and do you have any plans for the rest of the time you have? I also know that LJMU offers an app called campus connect that allows prospective students to join group chats for their course and uni accommodations which gives them the chance to get to know people abit more before going to uni. It might be worth a look to see if York offers a similar sort of thing as I highly recommend using it as it helped me a lot get to know some people I would be living with!
