Has anyone got tips for the Harris Westminster Sixth Form entrance exam?

I'm doing the maths and economics entrance exam, could I get some tips please?

Also what could you do to prepare for the interview - I chose economics but I'm not doing it at GCSE so am I cooked?

hi!!

i did the entrance exam last year for bio and maths so im not sure about the economics one, but do go over the content for econ as going in without any prior knowledge will definitely be a disadvantage. is there any way that you could email them and switch your exam to something youre doing in gcses? i think that would definitely boost your chances.

with maths, a lot of the questions were similar to ukmt style ones or grade 9 gcse ones, so id recommend you looking at those harder questions and attempting them. other than that, good luck! as long as you attempt most questions you'll be fine.

Was the biology exam hard as in what level was the content and how would you recommend revising for it and what kind of exam board questions?

id say it was definitely weird and not what you're used to in the normal gcse spec, i did aqa bio triple for context and i found it quite difficult. u should deffo try watching some vids on the igcse version of bio/ any other 'niche' exam board like cie since a lot of the questions came from those past papers/ were that kind of style.

try to read something basic about economics , id recc to search up economics GCSE and going through most asked questions and learning those topics , for maths just learn basic geometry and algebra , the qsns tend to be non computational and more application based so prepare acc to that

hiya!!

i dont have much to say tbh my advice is gonna be really generic, just make sure you know the ins and outs of ur current gcse spec and watch igcse level videos and try to understand them, it'd be helpful to do some of those style of questions! try the sample paper they provide asw but just know the actual entrance exam will be more difficult

same applies for maths ngl, ure prob used to ur own exam board's style of questioning so expose urself to random ones like igcse and ukmt etc. since they're gonna be testing ur skills and if u can apply the knowledge u already have to weird qs

other than that dont stress too much and gl!!

hey!
i mean it varies from person to person, i found some of the off-spec questions quite difficult like there was an enzyme and substrate question but it gave a weird diagram with a rod as the substrate and some weird shape wrapped around it and asked what part is the active site... thats the only one i remember really but the rest were alright!

my best advice other than looking at questions from harder specs would probably be to try and link the question to whatever gcse knowledge you already have and answer based on that. also the website they use exam.net doesnt let you click off the window and if u do close it u cant come back so dont accidentally click off or anything lol and they make u have ur camera on but everyone was just showing their face

anyway good luck!!
