A-level Biology OCR A

Hi, I wanted to ask if anyone can give me the resource that helped them the most with securing an A/A* for a-level biology as I'm currently using the textbook of pearson that my teachers uses and my tutor uses the oxford one and I have been suggested by a friend to use the cgp guide of the student book. Which one would be effecient as I feel like the textbook contains too much info and i heard the cgp guide contains over summarised.
Ofcourse I would do as much as possible of exam questions.

Thanks

Hello
I’m in the same position as you. I have had some friends say PMT has some good notes so it might be worth checking out

Hi @Laa_123

I got an A in A-Level Biology. My teachers recommended that we used a combination of different text books and revision guides as they usually all have slightly different information, that when combined will give you a really full understanding of the topic. The most efficient way that I found was to make notes using the textbook we used in class, then read the other textbook and revision guide and just add any extra notes from it. Ultimately, I would recommend making most of your notes from the textbook / revision guide that you understand and like the layout of, then use the others to supplement it. I also found it really helpful to use the specification as a checklist to make sure that I had covered everything.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi, I quite like Advanced Biology by Michael Kent. It’s not tailored to the current spec and is relatively old, but I find that it explains things really well + goes a little beyond the spec to aid my understanding (interesting too).
There are also some great websites. I like deranged physiology but it’s definitely not tailored to the spec and is in a lot more detail than needed, so only really useful for understanding.

I find that different people can prefer wildly different resources - the best resources are a combo of the ones that you personally understand the best and also the ones that fit better into the spec.

Hope that helps

Hi @Laa_123

I'm not sure if these are the exact names of the textbook but I believe it was:

Oxford A Level Biology for OCR

OCR AS / A Level Biology by Pearson

These were the textbooks that my school recommended / required us to use.

The main revision guide that I used was the CGP revision guide for OCR A Level Biology. I liked how the information was laid out and it was familiar because I had used the CGP books during my GCSEs.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
