Hi, i am doing a levels and am predicted an A* in maths A in Buisness and A in psychology and also an A for an economics based EPQ. Overall in gcses i didnt do great. My grades were 98876655544. However, I got a grade 8 in english lang and a grade 8 in maths. Is there any point of applying to bath because of my gcses???
You could contact Bath and ask what weighting / emphasis they put on GCSEs for Economics. It is a very competitive subject at Bath so GCSEs are likely to be significant in their assessment but they may look at only specific GCSE subjects/grades.
Be aware that the joint subject degrees are likely to be far less competitive - so look at Politics with Economics etc as a back-up choice?

Hi nick76,
It's a good question and we have recently published information on our course pages about it. You can take a look on this link: Selection for Economics
The information about GCSEs is near the top and is as follows:
'Your overall GCSE profile is very important for this course, as achievement across a broad range of subjects and skills will best prepare you for degree study. When assessing your application we consider your best eight grades including Mathematics and at least one English Language or Literature subject. If you have fewer than six GCSE grades (or did not study GCSEs) your overall academic profile will be considered instead based on any current and previous study. In previous years the strongest applicants in this area have had GCSEs of mostly 9 or A* grades.'
This information applies to our Economics (3 or 4 years) and Economics and Politics (3 or 4 years) degrees.
At last, after years of hiding this, Bath actually publishes its selection criteria and weightings - but only for its most competitive degree subjects it appears. We will now just wait for it to clean up its confusing muddle of 'alternative offers', totally baffling to many WP applicants.
For last year Bath said that all offer holders for Economics were predicted or achieved 3A* or better and all offer holders had a GCSE profile of 8.0 or higher. They had 2400 applicants and made 950 offers for 280 places.

Published source?
(And btw, Bath had places for Economics in Clearing last year - so either they got their maths wrong and didn't hit their offer targets - or they pulled mysterious 'extra' places out of the hat just for Clearing. All rather curious.)
