MA Creative Writing - deciding between two

Hi! I have been offered a place at Lancaster Uni on their MA Creative Writing and Bath Spa University Writing for Young People. I feel so torn and would appreciate any advice.
1. BSU course is highly specialised - this could be both good and bad - I’m torn between getting straight into writing aimed at young people and learning how to write across genres/improving my prose regardless of age group
2. Lancaster is a cheaper city to live and I’m taking a fully self-funded career break for this
3. BSU seems to have very clear links to agents and publishers where LU seems to have a few really big prize winners
4. Lancaster is ranked higher in general, but the BSU course is very highly regarded in industry
PLEASE HELP!

Hi @AislingCWrites ,

Firstly huge congratulations for getting accepted onto both courses, it’s a brilliant achievement so well done!

Have you visited both institutions for postgrad open events? If not I would definitely make the trip to see them. The open days are brilliant ways of finding out what it’s really like to study at the university or College. The days are specifically structured to enable you to have the opportunity to meet the staff in the departments so your tutors as well as the support staff and all the campus has to offer. It will enable you to ask all of the questions you need answering to enable you to make your decision. As well as seeing everyone and everything at the institution, it will also allow you to gain a sense of feel for the uni. Is it somewhere that you feel comfortable at? If you aren’t happy there, you won’t be able to do yourself justice and achieve as much as you’re so capable of doing. While walking round and meeting everyone, ask yourself if you think they are supportive and encouraging? Will the tutors help you to gain opportunities for your future writing? Are there opportunities to write outside of the course work, for experience for your future writing?

I hope this helps a bit, good luck and feel free to ask me anything else,

Thanks for your reply, it’s really good of you! I’m working in the Middle East right now so I won’t be able to go to an open day before I have to submit my decision. I would have loved to.
