Question

How can I understand what the lecturer is teaching
If you're confused, ask the lecturer. That's what they're there for.

How can I understand what the lecturer is teaching

Hi,

I hope you are well! It is very normal to be confused about what the lecturer is trying to teach sometimes, I know I have felt the exact same before and there are a few things that you can do to help yourself!

My best advice would be to contact the lecturer directly. If you explain to them that you are struggling to understand and let them know the specific areas that you are having a hard time with then they should be more than happy to help you. They might offer for you to go in and speak to them and come up with different techniques that you can do to help retain the information that is being taught and they might be able to provide you with some extra content/learning resources that you can take back with you and look at in your own time.

Do your lecturers put the lectures online? I know at LJMU they upload all the presentations for lectures online so that we can access them from home. Uni requires you to do a lot of extra work outside of the classes so by keeping up to date with the content and reading around the subject at home you will find that you start to understand things a lot better!

I hope this response has helped, let me know if you have any other questions, I am more than happy to help!

Thanks, Matt 🙂

How can I understand what the lecturer is teaching

Hi @Anonymous 👋

That completely ok! Sometimes it can be hard to keep up in the lectures and it is important to know that going through the lecture notes again afterwards is really useful. When you don't understand the content, you should ask your lecturer after the lecture or schedule a time to talk to them so they can advise you further and help you the best they can 😊

How can I understand what the lecturer is teaching

Hi there,

It can be hard sometimes keeping up with what is happening in the lecture so I get where you are coming from!

Firstly, I would say that one thing that helped me is to look over the slides before you go to the lecture if you can and highlight the things that you don't understand. Some things you might already know but some you won't and if you have these bookmarked, you will know to focus on these specific parts of the lecture as I find it hard to concentrate on everything. Try and make as many notes as you can but it's also good to just make sure you are listening as well as making notes.

If there are things you don't understand after the lecture, make sure you ask the lecturer! They are there to help you and will go through things with you if you don't get them. Sometimes there is time after the lecture, or you can email them or ask in seminars if you don't get chance to do this. They have always been happy to help me so I am sure your lecturers would be the same.

Rewatching the lectures if they get recorded is a great idea too as it means you can pause and write notes so you don't miss any of the lecture! You can go over things you don't understand again which always helps me out a lot.

Also asking your peers is a good idea too as they may understand something that you don't which could help you out quite a lot so it is aways worth asking!

I hope some of this helps,
