PGCE Biology with a Marine Biology Degree

Hiya,
I am currently studying marine biology at undergraduate but have decided I would like to become a biology teacher at secondary schools (11-18). Might be a silly question but I wanted to confirm marine biology is a relevant degree to be accepted onto the science with biology PGCE, as most unis specifiy a “biology or biology related” degree. Thanks so much!

A Marine Biology degree is generally considered a suitable and relevant subject for entry onto a Secondary Science (Biology) PGCE, as it falls within the biological sciences field. Universities usually look for a degree where at least 50% of the content is related to biology, so your degree should meet this requirement.
When you apply, it’s helpful to highlight the biological modules you’ve studied to show the relevance to secondary biology teaching.
If you have any school experience, even a brief classroom observation or volunteering, this can also strengthen your application.
