Student finance overpayment

My son is with drawing from his uni course and I think it will leave him with a maintenance overpayment of £2.5k, does anyone know if student finance will set up a repayment plan? If so how low will they go? thanks in advance.

Hi there,

When a student withdraws from university. The university would notify us and we'll do a reassessment on the loan. If there is an overpayment we'll advise them of this along with a number to contact to discuss affordable way to repay any overpayment (direct debit, monthly payments etc). Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason, do they accept very low repayments as he has no job and I’m on my own with a low wage and no benefits as both my kids are over 18. Also do they continue to add interest within the repayment time?

Hi there, we're not able to advise on this as it's a different department to ourselves but they will have options in place for him based on his situation. If you tell him to keep an eye on his account for a letter confirming any overpayment along with the number to contact - the team will be able to assist with any questions he has. Thanks, Jason
