Application help-AAAa looking to study a level economics or a and f

Im a year 13 student currently studying maths ,economics, chemistry and FM.During my prediction exams I kinda fumbled the bag and ultimately got predicted AAAA.GCSE:9998888665

I was planning to apply to economics at Leeds , Exeter and Bath and AF for Durham with York as my safety. And I wanted to know if this would be a feasible spread and whether unis would mind a personal statement tailored to both courses (in my ps have shown an understanding of wealth and income inequality through essays and experience as well as research into credit systems and other financial measure that contribute to it ; to try hit a mix of econ + finance(also added some accounting work experience)

I’ve consulted my teachers about trying to move up to an A* in math because of my below average performance but at this point I think my grades are final 😭.

I just wanted to ask for any advice on application and whether people think these are ok choices. Also wanted some thoughts on dropping to AS level FM instead because the courses in applying to don’t seem to need the full a level(and bath only needs AS for alternate offer) and one of the big reasons I messed up in year 12 was the sheer excess workload from FM.

A bit of a tangent mb ; but I’d really appreciate all the help I can get 😭
Hi there!

Great to hear you're considering Bath as one of your choices 🙂 and I just wanted to say, your profile so far is far from 'below average!' your predicted grades and GCSE profile are very solid and you should be very pleased with them.

However, Economics at Bath is an extremely competitive course where not everyone will get an offer even if they meet or exceed the entry requirements unfortunately, and so it is good to see that you've chosen a sensible range of unis to apply to. Do you have an idea on where you would put as your Firm?

If you wanted to know more about how we at Bath weight different factors in peoples' Economics applications, then we have a new page outlining this here: Admissions for A-level students for Economics.

Overall, if you wanted to into something like finance, banking, or financial analytics then both courses would set you up well for this - what's important is that you would be prepared for either alternative and confident you will enjoy either.

Hoping this helps a bit and best of luck with everything! 🦆🛀

Hey, I like your uni choices, as similar to mine! I am predicted A* in Maths, A in Further Maths, A* Economics and A Physics, and went for Durham ( prob 1st choice, as I love sport as much as academics), Cambridge, Bath, Exeter and then Loughborough as insurance. I have a contextual offer from Exeter at A*AA without FM. Thinking of dropping FM though if TMUA result as bad as I think it is in January if I don't need it for Durham after offers come in. Also, I'm worried that FM requires so much extra work it might affect my other grades. Best of luck!
