Music Composition

I'm so cooked for music. My free composition is due next week and I've barely even started it. I hate every single thing I make and I've deleted almost half of what I did start. I'm trying to just stick to one thing even though I hate it-blues. The melody I came up with sounded vaguely 12 bar bluesy so my teacher suggested I use that but I don't know anything about blues so like what do I do? I used a walking bass line in the piano with the melody I came up with and a 12 bar blues guitar pattern to accompany the piano. But I also used a bass guitar and when I hear it all it just doesn't sound bluesy at all. I was thinking of adding double bass to add more swing to it but now i'm thinking bass guitar AND double bass? That doesn't sound right at all. I just don't know what to do and no one seems to know how to give me advice.

How are you coming up with harmonies to fit the 12 bar?

I was thinking of adding brass and saxophone but again I'm not sure how it'd fit.

I suggest looking up what instruments would be used in a blues performance and sticking with those - guitars, harmonica, bass and drums

Also your choice of 12 bars for a melody is quite curious, why not 8 or 16?

Lastly for harmonies, once i decide what instruments i want to use i usually keep the base melody playing while i freestyle harmonies by ear till it feels right.
