SFE and switching healthcare courses

Hello!

I am in the process of switching from BSc Physiotherapy to MSc Occupational Therapy at the same university. I already have a previous degree so this would still be my second degree, and I should still be eligible for student finance as OT is under the exemption courses. Since I am switching from a BSc to an MSc and the MSc course starts in January, I have had to submit a withdrawal request from the Physio course and have accepted the new OT offer.

I was wondering if I am able to apply for student finance for the OT course now, while the withdrawal from Physio is still processing? Or should I wait until the withdrawal is finished? I am keen to get the application sent ASAP if possible and I have my offer letter so should have all the necessary documents to do the new application?

Thanks!

HI there,

You can apply now on the paper application then post this to us. Once we receive the withdrawal we will update this and then process the application you have sent. Applications can take 6-8 weeks to process once we have everything.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi, thank you for your reply.
Is it possible to do an online application rather than a paper one?

You wouldn't be able to do this online till the application we have currently is withdrawn.

Thanks,
Claire

Okay thank you.

Would it generally take a long time for the previous application to be withdrawn?
Since the new course starts in January I'd be keen to get it sorted ASAP so just checking if it would be faster to complete a paper application now or to wait and send the online one once the withdrawal has gone through?

Thank you!

The university need to send your withdrawal so it depends how quickly they send this to us. Once received, its currently taking 23 working days to process. Our timescales are estimates only and subject to change.

Thanks,
Claire

Thank you very much for the info.

I understand that the withdrawal and new application will take a bit of time to process, so if the new application has not been approved by January when I start the course, would that be a problem? I am only applying for a tuition fee loan, and I understand that may be a question to ask the Uni too.

Would you recommend sending in the paper application now or waiting to do the online one? Is the processing time the same for both?

Thanks again!

Hi there,

You can send the paper application to us know so that you are not waiting and it does not cause further delays. It is the same processing timescales for a paper or online application. I would advise you speak to the university if you think the application is going to be processed after you start for further guidance.

Thanks, Drew

Hi, thank you for your reply and for the advice. If I send over the paper forms, will they be held until my withdrawal goes through, and then be automatically processed?
Just trying to understand the process!
Thanks!

Hi there,

The Change of Circumstances Withdrawal can take approximately 23 working days to process and the application can take 6-8 weeks so if they are sent at the same time the withdrawal should be processed before the application.

Thanks, Drew
