Social life at UCL

Can someone give me the honest truth I’m thinking of applying for chemical engineering at UCL however I’ve heard many things about struggling to make friends and that whilst living in London and going to a London uni you have no social life and that it feels like sixth form whilst commuting to university will I make friends, and have fun and have things to do or should I leave London for the more uni experience such as Manchester, Nottingham, bath etc

let me know if anyone replies as i have the same questions. I've also heard bad things about the chemical engineering department at UCL in terms of teaching but im not sure if this is true or not.

UCL has a poor reputation for the way it treats its undergraduates - the focus is on research/postgrad and the undergraduates are regarded just as ££ income. There is nothing magic about a degree from UCL - and there are far better Unis for Engineering.

I am not too sure about the social dynamics within UCL, I would say that it's always best to see things in person for yourself 🙂. Why not go for an Open Day to speak to current students and see if campus life there is the right fit for you!

Studying within a big city like London does have it perks, as there is always something going on and well connected. Because your social circle has more flexibility of expanding and have a higher chance of meeting people from other universities or London based clubs and societies 🤗.
