International fee status

Hi everyone,
I wanted to ask if anyone here has done their A Levels in the UK but holds a different passport I’m an Indian citizen. So far out of the 5 unis I applied 2 have already said I have international status and I was considering appealing.

I’ve been told I’m in a bit of a grey area since I’ve lived in the UK for about eight years in total, though not continuously because my family had to return to India for three years due to COVID and visa regulations.

If anyone has been in a similar situation, did you do anything specific to help persuade universities to review or reconsider your fee status? Any advice or experiences would be really appreciated!

Hi @Gjsbsnshh

If you don't agree with the university's decision regarding your fee status, I would encourage you to get in touch with their Fee Status team to discuss this with them. If you're not sure how to contact them, you could start with the Admissions team and they should be able to advise who you need to speak to.

This is the guidance that we follow: UKCISA: Find your fee status if that helps.

Thank you, I have it's just that they haven't replied yet and I have interview offers from them which I don't see the point in attending if they're giving me international fees since I won't be able to afford to go there.
All unis will complete a fee review on request. You need to do this in good time before enrolling. There will usually be a link in your offer email.

It's not really a case of "persuading" them, just providing evidence following the criteria laid out on the UKCISA site above. In this case is will focus around evidencing that you were ordinarily resident in the UK, and the trips to India were temporary in nature.

Fee reviews are very long and involved and almost definitely won't be resolved before the interview dates. Attend and sort the fee status out later.

Hi @Gjsbsnshh,

I'm sure you'll hear back from them soon. It can sometimes take a few days depending on the number of emails they have to work through, as well as confirming all the fee statuses. Have they got a contact number? Might be worth giving them a call if you're concerned about sorting this before attending your interviews. Also, there is no harm attending the interviews whilst you are challenging your fee status.

Good luck, hope it all works out for you.

I have given them my number although they do only use my email. I'll attend the interviews if they haven't responded then. Thank you 😊
