Help with Fine art university options

Hi, I'm currently studying on the Mmu UAL foundation diploma in art and design and have Alevel grades A in fine art, A In textiles and a C in English Literature. I'm stuck with where to apply for a fine art degree, I was originally thinking of either Newcastle or Loughborough however I'm worried that not being in London or at a renowned art school puts me at a disadvantage. So I'm now thinking of maybe looking at goldsmiths, Glasgow school of art, potentially ual csm but I'm concerned about how stressful it is to do your degree there regarding to studio space etc. I was offered an unconditional place at Kingston last year but didn't take it as I hadn't looked into it before, so any advice on there would be good too. Please could current students give me some opinions on the courses! Thanks!

Hi @Sweetcheels28! I did the same art foundation at MMU and ended up at Kingston studying illustration animation, I do highly recommend the university as MMU has strong ties with Kingston and its situated just outside central London so you get the closeness of London without the prices and more greenery haha. I do think its good to be in London for art as there are much more connections and jobs going, however that also means its much more competitive so there are pros and cons for sure. Another student ambassador @Kingston Eve could give you a bit more of a description on fine art but here is her blog you can also read on studying fine art at Kingston school of art.

Hope this helps!

Hey @Sweetcheels28!!

Thanks for the tag @Kingston Vee! 🙃

I studied Fine Art and Art History at Kingston University and absolutely loved it. Nonetheless, figuring out where you want to apply to for Fine Art can be a challenging process so I completely understand how you're feeling right now.

One of the main reasons I chose Kingston was the workshop facilities; I loved creating paintings and installation-based art during my A-Level, but I wanted the opportunity to explore more involved making processes if I was going to study art at degree-level. Throughout my Fine Art degree, I got to experiment with metal-working, bronze-casting and plaster with the support of specialist technicians - which was a huge step up for me coming from a sixth form which only had a small kiln!

If you have any specific questions about the course, facilities or even just general student life at Kingston School of Art, let me know and I'll respond as soon as possible. 🙂

Hope this helps,
Eve (Kingston Rep).

Check out degree shows (you may have to find what there is online at this point) They should give you a flavour.

Hi there,
I'm Charlotte, a y3 GD student at Norwich Uni Arts, I hope you are well.

That's so exciting ti hear that you're looking to study fine art at uni! Have you considered us? One of my housemates has just graduated from the fine art degree here and she had a really positive experience. Here is a link to our Fine Art BA (Hons) Degree information which includes course content and potential career paths. We also have sooooo many facilities here which allowed my housemate to explore so many different medium that she'd never considered trying out before.

If you have any questions at all, I'd be more than happy to answer them - I know that choosing a uni can be super daunting!
