LNAT and Law

I’m sitting the LNAT next month and I highly doubt I’ll do well, I’m applying for law but none of the universities I’m applying for require it. Even though they don’t need the LNAT, if I do bad will it weaken my application and vice versa if I do really well? I only took it because I thought it would make my application look better if I sat it regardless if they needed it or not. Hope this makes sense

Hey there,

I would recommend reaching out to the undergrad admissions team for each university you are applying for, as what they will say might vary. For example, at SOAS, if you are doing A-levels you do not require LNAT, but if you are taking BTECs or otherwise then you will need one.

The Undergrad Admission's email should be easily located on university websites.

I hope that helps 🙂

Hi Im pretty sure that universities that don't require the LNAT are not able to see your scores or results. Pretty sure only the ones that require it can see it. So I don't really see the purpose of doing one for no reason?

So if I do bad on the LNAT it won’t weaken my application for non-LNAT universities. Silly question but I’m worried now lol

No, the non-LNAT unis won’t see the result. When you register for the LNAT, there is an additional information section, you select which unis you want your score to go to. The only universities in the list are the ones who require the LNAT.

If you have already submitted your UCAS application (and applied to SOAS):

If you want to send your LNAT scores to a university that doesn't require it, you can send it in via email. The SOAS email address to get in contact with is [email protected]. If you don't get the result you want, there is no need to send anything.

In the email, include your UCAS ID number and the LNAT Candidate number so that the admissions team can link your LNAT to your account.

Even if you have an offer from SOAS, you can still send across your LNAT account number. It will still support your application on results day because all the information on your application is considered when making a decision.

Again, if you are applying to a university that does not require the LNAT, your LNAT grade will only support your application and does not replace any of the other requirements.

The information provided here is SOAS specific, if you are looking to send your score to other universities, please get in touch with their admission's teams

I hope this helps.

Taking the LNAT is a total waste of time if you are applying to five non-LNAT universities.
