A-level Chemistry or Politics?

I'm in Yr11 and so I will be picking my A-levels soon. I know I will be taking four A-levels and the three I know I'll be taking for sure are history, maths and further maths. i know i want to go to uni (hopefully russell group) to do history/a social science (maybe combined with a maths-y subject) or maybe pure chemistry. i'm stuck between picking chemistry or politics as my final a-level choice as i enjoy learning about either subject and either of them could fit in with my options. getting the grades aren't an issue. help!

chemistry may be more beneficial as many unis don't require politics to study politics, but they do require chemistry to study chemistry. overall it gives u more variety

If youre considering a chem degree then take chem, if your set on history or something like econ which is more mathsy then choose from politics or chem depending on what you like more.

i’m possibly considering a chemistry degree though i’d kinda prefer to do something more history based. either way, i’d do a law conversion after.

Do you have any specific questions about studying chemistry at university? I'm happy to answer anything that might help you decide. 🙂

that's fair, it keeps a door open if you are interested and doesn't hinder you if you turn out not to be. Though take whatever makes you happy, that's the most important

Hi,

Both subjects are great choices, but A-level Chemistry would definitely keep more options open, especially if you’re considering science-related degrees. Politics fits really well with History and other social sciences, so it depends on which direction you’d like to lean towards. I’d recommend checking entry requirements for any courses you’re interested in to help you decide.

Hope this helps,

You could take both. Do you really need further maths? That combination will probably open more doors for you, but saying that I study Scottish higher.

Here is a list of prospects for chemistry:

Finance seems to be a popular option after graduating.

Also, what's your primary area of interest? I ask because chemical engineering is largely an engineering degree - it focuses mostly on maths and physics, with only a little amount of chemistry. If your primary interest is chemistry, then a chemistry degree is really the best choice.
