Hiya @islaissleepyy ,
Are you thinking of doing an assignment or research regarding imposter syndrome?
I think one of the ways of dealing with this dissonance within is to speak to someone you trust about it. It is easy to get caught up within our own heads and sometimes it really helps to have someone who you can really open up about your feelings and experiences. You may come to realise that many peers are facing similar situations and feelings about their identity within an unfamiliar environment.

It would also be good to check out your uni's wellbeing support services. They might be able to provide a listening ear and offer some practical advice on how to tackle situations.
I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck in your studies and time at uni 🤗.

Hi hi @islaissleepyy , this is a great topic to explore as it is so common among first-years. And researching it can really help others feel seen and supported. Here is how I suggested you approach it:

1.

Start with the basics - defining imposter syndrome clearly

Look into what psychologists who first identified Imposter Syndrome say about it. Giving a clear definition allows people to have a better understanding.

1.

Narrow your focus

Since Imposter Syndrome is broad, decide on which angle to take. For example:

How imposter syndrome affects first year university students?

How it impacts academic performance or participation?

How social media amplifies it?

Coping strategies?

1.

Collect real student voices

You could include short surveys, interviews or anonymous quotes from students about their experiences. Making it more authentic and relatable.

1.

Pull in credible research

Search for different studies or your university library database. Make sure you summarise what the research says in accessible language, readers love when complex psychology is made simple.

1.

Include practical advice

After presenting your findings, share advice for students. E.g. how students can build confidence, use peer support or challenge negative self-talk.

1.

End with encouragement

Remind readers that feeling like an imposter does not mean they do not belong. Quite the opposite actually!

*Bonus tip: You could turn your research into a mini project that you may collaborate with student wellbeing services!

I really hope this was helpful and I wish you all the best with the research and session 🙂

Hi @islaissleepyy ,

This sounds interesting!

Are you doing questionnaires or interviews? If you are doing questionnaires, posting it on a uni Facebook group or asking your uni's student union to send it out to some people might be a good idea as you should get some good responses on there. Or if you are doing interviews or focus groups, again asking your SU for help in finding people may help, or just asking your tutor if you can send it around to people at your uni. Posting it on your social media may be a good idea too as you will probably find quite a lot of people this way!

In terms of what questions to ask, it is good to do some research before writing the questions so you have a basis on which you will ask the questions and what to write them about. Start to compile some research and you can always ask your tutors for help too.

in terms of writing a big piece of work in general, the best advice I have is to start as early as possible. I know it is a lot easier said than done but if you try and start as soon as you can, you have lots of time to refine it as much as you can. It's also good to try and ask your tutors for as much help as you can as they are there to help you and will be able to help you as much as they can.

I hope some of this helps,
