Grade requirements for York

I’m hoping to apply to Uni of York for English, but I’m worried if it’s the safest thing to do/if I have a chance to get in.
For English Yorks requirements are A/A/A with an A in English Lit, whilst my predicted grades are A/B/B with a B in Lit.

I’m applying to other unis (which I meet the requirement grades in better) so York will be my more aspirational choice.

But I’m wondering if it’s too risky? Do I have the possibility of getting a contextual from York that could possibly lower the grades suitably?
I’ve been told my application is strong, and I’m quite eligible for contextual or at least some consideration on my application. I would really like to go to York, so I’m very worried.

Has this happened to anyone? Has a uni offered you a contextual and you’ve been able to meet it despite having low predicted grades?

Thank you for any advice. 🥲

Look at their contextual offer policy to see if you’re likely to be elegible
Having one aspirational choice is a good thing because if you get an offer then youll have something to work towards during exams, however you may not receive an offer so you need to think how much you want a place there!
York offer a lot of alternative offers as well apparently so look at those as you can lower your offer by doing an online course or if you do an EPQ they will reduce the requirements too.

Hi there,

It's great to hear you're thinking of applying to York! 🥳

I'd recommend getting in touch with the Department of English and Related Literature's undergraduate admissions team ([email protected]) and speak with them about your options. Your predicted grades are pretty close to the course entry requirements, and it sounds like you have a strong overall application, so I think it's worth you applying to study with us.

I'd also recommend that you check out our Contextual Offer Policy, as this could reduce your entry requirements by up to two grades below our standard offer.

I hope this helps! Let us know how you get on, and if you have any other questions we can help with ❤️
Hannah 😀
