A Level Predicted (Law)

Hi, I'm currently predicted A*AB (I want to apply for Law). My GCSE grades are 877766555 but I don't know where to apply. Most universities accept A*AA or AAA but I feel like my B in Business is holding me back. I meet the contextual offer for free school meals and low house income but I don't know if that is enough. Any advice on how and where to apply?

Check the criteria for contextual offers of your target A*AA unis. If you are eligible, you would probably get an offer. Good luck.

You can apply to any RG uni with those predicted grades and contextual eligibility. Check each uni for their contextual requirement as all unis requirements are different.

I would approach your teacher about getting that B upped to an A. Not detrimental if not possible.

My advice would be to apply for 5 RG unis. Do not waste a spot on a ‘safe choice’ uni as they will only end up in clearing.

Do you think applying to a London uni is worth it or is it too competitive? Like UCL or KCL?

If you are eligible for Contextual offers - check carefully on each Uni website as every Uni uses different criteria - that you only need to meet the Contextual offer grades to be considered, not the 'standard offer' grades. Just be aware that UCL and KCL are bonkers-competitive - not because they are 'better' (they aren't) but because the supposed glamour of being in London means they will get thousands of applications, and can therefore be very picky.

Out-of-London Law Unis like Bristol, Nottingham, Leeds etc are more likely to consider you for an offer but check which Unis require LNAT - you need to register/book a test slot now as they will already be filling up, and there is an earlier cut-off date than for submitting your UCAS application.

Your first sentence is incorrect. The OP would be rejected by Oxford and Cambridge and probably by some other Russell Group universities.

Are you suggesting that UCL and KCL are not better than any other Russell Group university, or not better than any other university?

There seems to be a self-fulfilling assumption that because they get deluged with applications there must be something extra special about these specific Unis. There isn't.

Please answer the question above.

Are KCL and UCl academically equivalent to, say, Bedfordshire?

No, I wouldn't support that assumption.

So are you just on a general anti UCL and anti KCL beef?

I'm anti the assumption that just 'because its in London and its hard to get into' adds some sort of added sparkle.

I suggest that UCL and KCL are objectively good universities. UCL suffers from damaging wokery, but so do Oxford and many other universities.

Would you suggest I apply Durham? I have 3 weeks for my LNAT but I heard they are quite strict with the exam. If I start revising now do you think it's worth applying there? My current choices are Queen Mary, Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham and York.

check the contextual entry requirements of the universities you like and see how much they bring it down, you can apply to Russel groups this way. I just got an offer from Notts and they kinda messed up with giving me the right contextual tho...just contacted them abt it

OP, why do you wish to study law? What is it about the subject which interests you?
