University recommendations

Hi this is my first time posting here so sorry if it makes no sense, I'm hoping to go to uni for pharmaceutical science next year but I'm having a tough time picking universities to apply to. Can anyone who's gone to uni for this course let me know what uni and why please? I'm the first in my family to go so I need some outside help

Can you give a bit more details on what sort of place you're looking for? I.e. do you want to go live in a big city (London/Manchester/Birmingham) or are you not really bothered? Have you looked at the modules each university offers? What grades do you expect to realistically achieve?

There are lots of relevant courses out there - Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Development etc.

You need to look carefully at the course content for these, go to some Uni Open Days if you can and hear the subject presentations to really understand what the courses are all about. Your choices will also depend on your A level subjects and predicted grades - the usual advice is to have one choice just above your predicted grades, 3 choices at your predicted grades (your most likely offers), and one choice a few grades below (as your Insurance choice).

Agree with an earlier post. Research the courses you like the look of. When you feel you have found your course then look to the universities that offer the course and research them…..thoroughly.

Attending University Open Days really are essential. Not only to more fully understand the course but to take in the feel of the individual university and the associated town/city. The importance of this cannot be overemphasised.

Attending university now is a major commitment. Not only for the 3-4 years of the course but also the tens of thousands of pounds of cost that will be incurred. You really have to be sure.

Don’t do it because you can’t think of anything else to do.

Personally I would consider applying to a university without attending one of their Open Days to be very foolish.

Good luck

Hi,

While I don’t study pharmaceutical science myself, I’d recommend considering your predicted grades, entry requirements, location, and course content when choosing universities.

At LJMU, we offer a BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science course, which can be taken over 3 years, or 4 years if you choose the optional placement year. The entry requirements are BCC, and there is also a foundation year available.

The course gives you hands-on lab experience, teaching you about the physical and chemical properties of molecules, how they’re formulated into products, and their interaction with the human body. You’ll also develop transferable skills like research, data analysis, and project planning.

The optional 12-month placement is great for industry experience, which can really boost your CV and help you decide what area you’d like to work in. Graduates go on to careers in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, healthcare, biotechnology, food, and chemical industries. You may also continue to postgraduate study in courses such as MSc Drug Discovery, Development and Delivery, MSc Industrial Biotechnology, or MSc Cosmetic Science.

Liverpool itself is a lively, affordable city with lots of culture, food spots, and activities. At LJMU, JMSU our Student Union has many societies and events, so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. All first-year students are guaranteed accommodation, in case you’d like to live out.

If you can, I’d recommend attending an open day to see if the course feels right for you http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-students/undergraduate-open-days

Hope this helps,
