LAE, NCS , Brampton or Kings Maths

Hello. So basically, I wanted to ask which of those 4 sixth forms I should go to, based on ur experiences. I am predicted eight 9s and four 8s but it will probs be 10 or 11 9s after mocks cause I got scammed in a couple of subjects. All of them are an hour fifteen to an hour 30. I could also go to my current schools sixth forms, which is like 37th in the country for 6th form or smth, but I kinda wanna move.

I would take maths fm and econ with a fourth option, probs smth like physics but im open to any recommendations.

Thanks.

Just so you know, there's a designated NCS thread where you can ask current students and alumni about the sixth form.

All of those sixth forms are really good, but as I'm sure you aware Bma is known for being more intense, while LAE has a relaxed teaching style. There's a huge emphasis on extracurriculars and mental health at LAE, as well as exclusive excursions.

However, idk if bma still does this, but I know someone there who took econ, maths, and further maths and they said that most of their content was finished by beginning of year 13, which gave them so much time to revise of course (they got 3 A*s)

I haven't researched King's maths like the other ones because I'm not planning to go there, but for NCS, and BMA, I've only heard good things from alumni.

It's your decision, but I'd prefer to go Brampton just because of its high standards and intensive teaching. Good luck with your applications, I hope we both get in!

Come NCS 😼

Good teaching, loads of opportunities, loads of support + A FREE IPAD (so you don’t have to carry textbooks, paper, etc)

It’s actually a really good school and they def push you a lot so you get the best grades possible

Though the workload in insane (I’m drowning in school work) but I’d expect that to be true for any school. It’s also REALLY independent.

if you go brampton prepare to get tutors because every single person has one (at least for maths they do) cuz they dont teach anything and just give piles of homework for you to figure it out and then put your picture on the wall with 4A*s. kings maths has an admissions test and the people that go there are the best of the best so youll get crushed by the competition or crushed by trying to become it. ncs i have no clue but the other person said its good. lae is a bit better than brampton but still most people would have tutors. consider imperial maths school in north london and woodhouse ive heard theyre chill with great results or just stay at your old schools sixth form. you might think its lame to do that but if you get sick or dont perform well in your mocks at a new school theyd just give you Ds whilst at your old school theyd know your potential and will be more lenient on ur predicteds, thats the only big general advantage tho. also i js read 1.5 hours of travel is toooons, i travel that rn and i only go 3 days a week and its still draining, its litch 3 hours of ur day thrown out of the window unless you find smth like learning a language or flashcards to do on the train cuz there aint no way u writing anything on a bumpy train ride.

Current brampton student here. I would say that the math department is quite good since they over prep us a lot and teachers also pushes us a lot. But beware of the workload here, everyone that I know just spends their whole study and week doing math homework. If you do Fm, you could also take maths A-level in yr 12 which helps a lot since you won’t need to worry about forgetting content when taking the A-level in yr 13 ( BMA teaches normal maths in yr12 and fm in yr13 but they won’t revisit normal maths content in yr13). Idk about the other subjects but I’ve not heard bad things about the department so yeah

Unfortunately no💔

They probably reuse them or trade them in for the newer ones

I think if you’ve been considering King’s Maths School (from hereon kms or kclms depending on how i choose to exercise my free will) I think you’ll love it. I’m currently a student at kms and was in a similar situation to yours last year, with offers from schools like LAE and Harris Westminster among a couple others, andI haven’t regretted my choice.

Its genuine a very strong school for STEM subjects. The only thing, I think might put you off with our curriculum is that you’d have to do an AS in econ an full A-level in physics (although there might be changes for your year, don’t quote me on this) but ik multiple people who are applying to do econ or econ-adjacent things like PPE in uni, so this really doesn’t hinder your application chances.

The teaching here is very strong although (surprisingly) it is also quite relaxed. Worth mentioning that the school is small and most people are very friendly.

Out of extra things at Kings we get to do a research project in y12 (with an optional epq in y13). There are a lot of extracurricular opportunities, Olympiads, competitions and things like this (e.g. I’ve done UKSDC and UKLO but some people ik are also doing compos, quantum club and all sort of other cool things) Oh yeah and you get an official uni account and access to kcl libraries (which isn’t that important but pretty cool)

I’m sorry if I’ve tried to ‘sell’ kings too much, but if you are interested in stem it is genuinely a great school

P.S. the rumour is that this years’ entrance exam was very hard, so if you’re stressing a lot about the entrance exam, you shouldn’t (maybe i’m late to this and they’ve already sent out interview invites, idk ngl)
