Second Degree Funding for BSc Counselling / Psychotherapy (CAH02 ELQ Exception)

Please can someone provide a list of universities/courses that offer:

(101320) Art Psychotherapy CAH02 (Subjects Allied to Medicine), CAH02-03-08
(100495) Counselling CAH02 (Subjects Allied to Medicine), CAH02-03-08
(100254) Psychotherapy CAH02 (Subjects Allied to Medicine), CAH02-03-08

that are eligible for second degree funding (ELQ exception).

What I need to know is:
Which universities have actually registered these courses with the SLC as ELQ-exception, so they are genuinely eligible for tuition + maintenance loans for students who already hold a degree.

I am not looking for:
A repeat list of the course codes (as above)
Advice to “check with the university directly”

I am asking for course providers who have already completed the SLC registration and are currently funded as ELQ exceptions.

Trying to work this out course-by-course is becoming completely unreasonable.

Thank you.

Hi there,

We don't have a list of all possible exception courses that universities offer, unfortunately. If you have a particular university that you're interested in then you should get in touch with them to find out more.

We can give you a list of exceptions course titles, however. So, to be an exception the course title should look like one of these:

Chiropody

Dental hygiene (Honours degree, diploma or foundation degree)

Dental therapy (Honours degree, diploma or foundation degree)

Dental hygiene and dental therapy (Joint or dual honours)

Dietetics

Dietetics and nutrition*

Midwifery (Degree Level)

Nursing (Degree Level)

Nursing and social work (Dual honours)**

Nurse Paramedic Course (Edge Hill University only)

Occupational therapy

Operating department practice (Degree or diploma level)

Orthoptics

Physiotherapy

Podiatry

Prosthetics and Orthotics

Radiography

Radiotherapy

Speech and language therapy

Thanks, Graeme

Graeme the list you provided is the AHP ELQ exception list only.

However, the current ELQ exception rules also include courses classified under CAH02 Subjects Allied to Medicine, as stated in SLC’s own guidance here: https://www.heinfo.slc.co.uk/resources/guidance/courses-management-service-user-guide/eligibility/equivalent-or-lower-qualification-elq-exceptions/english-domiciled-students/

So I need clarification on the following:

1) Please confirm that these subjects fall under CAH02 and are eligible for ELQ exception:

Art Psychotherapy CAH02-03-08 HECoS 101320

Counselling CAH02-03-08 HECoS 100495

Psychotherapy CAH02-03-08 HECoS 100254

Since you are unable to provide a list of specific universities/courses, I need confirmation that these HECoS codes are correct, as that is required to verify eligibility directly with providers.

2) Please confirm the scope of the ELQ exception under CAH02:

Full-time courses (as per link above)

Part-time courses (as per link above)

3) Please confirm whether the exception applies to:

BA/BSc

MA/MSc

PGDip / Advanced Diploma

All of the above

I need clear confirmation of what CAH02 ELQ exception covers, and the relevant HECoS codes, so I can verify eligibility with providers myself. Without concise guidance, this process becomes extremely difficult especially as there is no way to discuss this by phone.

Hi there,

The list that has been provided is the courses that are classed as exception courses. Not all courses that are allied to medicine and have a code of CAH02 are classed as an exception. The 3 courses you have mention are not on the exception list and would not be classed an exception course.

Thanks, Drew

Drew then can you explain why I’ve applied for a BA in Humanistic Counselling as a second degree and been approved for full funding by Student Finance?

Just to be sure, has your application definitely been approved? Does it show as approved when you login?

Also, have you applied as a full-time or part-time student?

Thanks, Graeme
