English Language vs Linguistics for my future?

I’m deciding between English Language and Linguistics at York, Lancaster or Newcastle—my goal is forensic linguistics or speech therapy. Have you studied at these unis or in these subjects? What was your experience? 😊

Linguistics will probably give you a better base for speech therapy, not sure on forensic linguistics but i'm sure linguistics will help with that considering its in the name.

Hi there,

It's great to hear you're thinking of applying to York! 🥳

It sounds as though you've got some great career goals in mind so if there are ways we can help you get there, we will do all we can!

As a first step, I'd recommend getting in touch with our contact from Department of Language and Linguistic Science who is James Tompkinson, and speak with them about your options. They will be able to chat you through some recommended modules you can take to support your step towards working in the area of forensic linguistics or speech therapy.

Added to that, we have some great first-hand accounts from our students such as:
I hope this helps! Let us know how you get on, and if you have any other questions we can help with ❤️
