Dropping out of year 13 and restarting - is it possible?

It's November of year 13, and it's been incredibly stressful keeping up with the content in class and managing coursework and UCAS. I'm still not entirely sure what degree I want to do (I've been thinking Economics or Accounting). Is it possible to take a year out and redo year 13 next academic year so I can have time to gain work experience, catch up on content at my own pace, and carefully consider my next steps after A-levels?

Hey @dk262,

Reach out to your college/sixth form and ask whether or not they would allow you to redo Year 13 next year. Note that due to the legal requirement for under 18s in England to be in some form of education or training, you will likely still need to complete this academic year even if you intend to re-do it next year.

You can definitely take a gap year before university to re-sit your A-Levels, gain work experience and consider your options - gap years are a good way to save some money for university and they help ensure you're pursuing a subject you're genuinely passionate about rather than rushing off to study something you're not 100% sure of yet.

Best of luck,
Eve (Kingston Rep).
