Hi! I've applied for English lit at Durham uni and was just wondering what current student's experiences with the course have been? What is the teaching quality like, have you found it east-y to make friends on and off your course, are you enjoying it etc? thanks so much for any replies! state school student who's generally quite nerdy for background ig lol 😅

Hi, I studied languages at Durham, not English, however I have lots of friends who have studied English lit here and loved it. They have said that the teaching is really strong, lecturers are passionate and small seminars mean that you get to properly discuss ideas. It’s quite independent, but the support is there when you need it.
Socially, the college system makes it super easy to meet people beyond your course through formals, events and societies. And on the course itself, people are friendly and really driven. It is nice to be around like-minded people. You’ll find your people. Coming from a state school is totally fine and loads of us do. I have had a really great experience at Durham.
If you want to hear about experiences directly from an English lit student, I will attach a blog that might be interesting. Click here.
