Is it ok to use chatgpt to get sources for EPQ??

Hi, so i would like to first say that I don't use ChatGPT for writing. However, i was wondering if i could use it to get resources for my EPQ. I would still personally read the resources, make my own summaries and judge its credibility. I personally just find it difficult finding the sources I specifically need (it takes me hours to find 2 sources I would actually use) and I feel that by using ChatGPT to get the specific ones I need, for example, "find sources that explain how gene therapy is used now". Would I lose marks off my EPQ if I did this and is it ok to do this?

Have you checked the qualification guidelines or any guidance from your school?

I wouldn’t use ChatGPT for sources personally as it tends to hallucinate on this front (come up with non-existent to removed/inaccessible sources) so probably won’t be as useful. Are your teachers or supervisor able to give you advice on where to look for sources?

There’s tools such as Google Scholar (generally speaking), maybe there’s scientific papers or pages from universities/healthcare bodies for example (if you’re looking at gene therapy) etc.

If you use it to suggest sources, then you were to go and look at those sources yourself and reference them directly as if you had found them another way, that would be fine. I would, however, be very cautious trusting ChatGPT's output of sources, as it does have a tendency to hallucinate sources.

The entire point of the exercise of doing an EPQ is so you actually learn how to locate appropriate scholarly sources, and learn how to properly cite and use them in a formal piece of academic writing.

If you're just going to use ChatGPT for that purpose of conducting the literature review then honestly I wouldn't even bother doing the EPQ - universities don't really care about it and if you're not actually learning the skills from it yourself (by you know, doing the activity yourself) it's just altogether a waste of your time which would be better spent on other things.
