previous study student finance funding

Hello

I have a query about return to study.
I have studied part time with open university and had a part time loan
2019 Law
2021 Law
2022 Law suspended
2023 law
2024 accounting suspended

I did not get a degree out of it I only got a certificate of higher education in law. I have withdrew halfway through the year where it says suspended

Could you please advise if I can receive full funding for a full time loan?
I was thinking of Biomedical science with foundation year(4yrs) or without (3yrs) or
paramedic science (3yrs), Law (3 yrs)

also if I am not eligible for full funding could you please provide a list of the second qualification eligible for full funding

Thank you

Hi Wanesa,

Can you please tell us when you gained the Certificate of Higher Education? Was it when the course ended in 2024?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Wanesa1996,

Can you also confirm the ordinary duration of the course that you obtained the exit/HNC qualification from?

Thanks, Clare

2019-2021 Law (Obtained Certificate of higher education in Law)
2022 Law suspended (withdrew halfway)
2023 law ( not passed)
2024 accounting suspended(started a new course and withdrew halfway)

Hi Wanesa1996,

By ordinary duration, I mean how long should the course have been? For example, most courses are 3 or 4 years in length.

Thanks, Clare

3 years full time (online which was still counted as part time) or 6 years part time

Hi Wanesa1996,

Thank you for confirming. As you gained the HNC then attended further courses after this, it wouldn't be considered a top up. This means that the previous study calculation would take all years into account in the calculation.

If you were to start a new 3 or 4 year course, you would need to self fund the Tuition Fees and would be eligible for Maintenance Loan only.

I have provided a list of exception courses that you would be eligible for full support full time.

Students will be eligible if they start a new course leading to a qualification as a:

Medical Doctor

Dentist

Veterinary Surgeon (Veterinary Science courses can only be classed as an exception if the course leads the student to be a fully qualified Veterinary Surgeon)

Architect (RIBA 1 and 2 studied as one continuous full time course)

Social Worker

Teacher (PGCE)

Or

Chiropody

Dental hygiene (Honours degree, diploma or foundation degree)

Dental therapy (Honours degree, diploma or foundation degree)

Dental hygiene and dental therapy (Joint or dual honours)

Dietetics

Dietetics and nutrition*

Midwifery (Degree Level)

Nursing (Degree Level)

Nursing and social work (Dual honours)**

Nurse Paramedic Course (Edge Hill University only)

Occupational therapy

Operating department practice (Degree or diploma level)

Orthoptics

Physiotherapy

Podiatry

Prosthetics and Orthotics

Radiography

Radiotherapy

Speech and language therapy

Paramedic Science courses are only classed as an exception if the student is entitled to funding from the Ambulance Service Trust. If they are not eligible for support from the Ambulance Service Trust they can apply to us for full support, but this will be subject to ELQ rules.

Thanks, Clare

Hi there,

Have you been able to apply on your online account before or have you had to submit paper applications? Are you a UK national?

Thanks, Drew

before I applied online but I withdrew from my last course so I am not sure if I would be classed as a continuing student. I had a 1 year gap from studies and the university would be different to the previous one. I just want to make sure so I dont apply online and then to be told to send a paper application instead

Hi there,

If you have been withdrawn from your previous course and can you are now starting a new course at a new university then you would apply as a new student. You can apply online.

Thanks, Drew
