Hello,
I’m currently in Year 12, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to study medicine at Cambridge. It’s not just because it’s considered one of the “top” universities, but because I truly value the structure of their medicine course. Unlike many other universities, Cambridge emphasizes a research-heavy approach with less early clinical exposure, which really interests me ! As I love doing research and not clinical work during studying as much.
That said, recently I’ve been feeling like this dream may be out of reach. I achieved 5 As and 6 A*s at GCSE (with one grade 6 due to a different exam board which is eqv to B). While I’m proud of these results, I know that the typical Cambridge applicant often has at least 9 A*, if not all A*s, so I can’t help but worry whether my grades are competitive enough.
I’m genuinely anxious about my chances and would really appreciate some honest advice:
• What can I do now to improve my application?
• Should I still apply to Cambridge, or would it be wiser to focus my efforts elsewhere?
I would be grateful for brutally honest guidance. I want to make the most informed decision possible.
Thank you so much for your time and advice.
Also how are GCSE grades weighed? Say I have these grades and then A*A*A* in bio chem physics A level would that make it any better? Perhaps it’s cancel out the As and Bs I got?
I am really worried , sorry if I come across as obnoxious and one of those annoying “ do I have a chance “ posts .
