Should i put 'maths' or 'mathematics' in my personal statement?

I'm finishing off my personal statement, but i realise i am 1000 characters over the limit, so I'm trying to cut down where i can. will shortening 'mathematics' to 'maths' negatively affect my personal statement due to informality? I'm applying to imperial college so i want my ps to be as strong as possible...

100% it is the other areas you should be focusing on to cut your personal statement down by, considering you are 1000 characters over the limit but I would say that I'd understand two thoughts,

1.

They can see your subjects when your UCAS application is sent anyways, so if you are listing your subjects unnecessarily it will just not benefit you

2.

You most likely have strong grades if ur applying to Imperial at all, and honestly I don't think they'd care at all whether you talk about Maths or Further Maths in their full respective name or not, as they understand and know that you are writing under a character limit

in other words ur fine og, dont sweat it as i'm sure maths would be universally understood by any admissions officer,
and if u want ill pm you a link to an exemplar successful imperial offer holder from like 2015 for CS as a guide. he writes Maths, not mathematics
The first question I would ask would be, what subject are you applying to, and why do you use the term mathematics/maths so often anyway that using the shortened version to save 6 characters apiece will make a substantive impact on the 1000 characters extra?

I would think even if applying to maths or similar you would be talking about specific mathematical concepts/objects/etc with specific names rather than just using "maths" in a general sense. For other courses I'm not sure how often you'd really need to mention maths in a general sense anyway...?

Also realistically: with 1000 characters over the limit, you need to seriously redraft your PS anyway regardless of looking at contracted terms. I strongly suspect you probably have a lot of unnecessary material that you could cut back on, or cut back on generic adjectives and other descriptive language that doesn't really add anything!

Honestly this is at most getting you 12 characters back so I don't think you're ultimately focusing on the wrong area to save characters.

Well, you're already trusting us to give advice and you've no idea what our background is...

But in all seriousness the TSR review service is as safe as houses, to my knowledge there's never been any kind of breach and it has been going for years.

The TSR personal statement reviewers are all DBS checked and also are not current applicants to ensure no issues with breaches. We take our roles very seriously
