Advice for a midwifery interview

Hi,
Any advice for a midwifery interview?
Particularly in a group task or qualities they would want to see?
Thanks

Just for fairness to anyone else applying for the same course as yourself can't give you any exact information okay 🙏 🙏 🙏 can give you some examples....

Understand why you have chosen that particular university to study midwifery
Reading over your personal statement is key as you may be asked about it
Make sure you have read the NMC code of practice
Make sure you understood the 6 C's of nursing
Make sure you understand the core values of the NHS
Why do you want to be a midwife and where do you see yourself in around 6/7 years time ( meaning are you prepared to climb the career ladder to the highest band you can work at).

Few crucial questions you might be asked about - (1) how would you cope/ deal with angry people both as a student midwives and a qualified midwife.
(2) How would you deal with anxiety and stress when you are on duty at your placement or if you are a qualified midwife.
(3) How would you deal with a bereavement and stay professional as a midwife ( yes unfortunately this does happen now and again so need to be prepared to cope - you should be taught that as part of your coursework).

Have you got the qualities to be a fantastic midwife as only you will know that one.

Can't give you any further information okay as it's not fair for others. Obviously others reading this will be able to research the stuff I mentioned.

Best of luck
NHS registered band 7 senior charge nurse Midwife.

Just to add to advice already given as a 3rd year student midwife and I have to emphasise please read about the current issues within the NHS, groups that have a higher mortality rate(MBBRACE report to name one) and that cover disparities within the nhs.

You are welcome 🤗

Hopefully you will get a offer to do midwifery at university.

Making sure you do it a brilliant interview and your personal statement stands out.

Just one thing to note for you is that if you don't get a offer for midwifery then you might be offered an alternative nursing course ( maybe adult nursing) and it's up to you if you accept it or not... I would probably consider it if that was the case as you might decide to wait until the following year to try for midwifery again and still not get it but in the meantime you would have completed a year of adult nursing. As a qualified adult nurse you can still work on maternity wards alongside midwives helping with the day to day workload as you involved with nearly all aspects of midwifery but not delivering babies.
There's still another alternative if everything doesn't work out - have you considered doing a MCA/ MCA ( Maternity care assistant/ worker) this really depends on individual health boards with job vacancies for this position ( it's about 18/20 months course) and you actually learn everything about midwifery except unfinished you don't do deliveries of babies and majority of MCA/ MCW actually go on to university and become qualified midwifes. ( You are paid whilst training).
