Are grade 4 x 7s good enough for oxford or do i not have a chance?

Hi,
I got 98887777 L2D* in my GCSE's, are these grades good enough for oxford paired with high alevels for eg A-A*??(im doing maths, bio, chem , polish and an EPQ)

Without extenuating circumstances, probably not for Oxford but Cambridge don't place much weight on GCSEs because they recognise it's not a strong indicator of success at uni. Also depends what subject you want to study. If you get A*A*A* or A*A*A predicted you have a decent shot at Cambridge. With extenuating circumstances, depends what they are and how severely they affected you.

What course are you applying to? How they assess GCSEs is rather course dependent. For something like maths, or similar subjects like CS, materials science, physics, engineering, it may well be fine. For something like medicine it may not be realistic due to how they shortlist applicants for that course (although fortunately for medicine, which medical school is unimportant if your goal is to become a doctor in the UK).

In all honesty, I don’t see your grades being too much of a barrier unless you went to a school where everyone other than you got basically straight 8’s and 9’s.

Just focus on your A levels (and UCAS + supercurriculars once you get to that point) and see what happens from there.

well in my skl 3 people got all 9s and I think 60-70% passed their exams. My skl is quite average in terms of results tbh based of the people I spoke with most got between 4-7s?

Then you’re probably fine. Don’t get worked up over GCSEs and just move on to doing what you can to ensure you get the best possible grades at A level.

They provide a lot of information and data on the GCSEs of applicants on their webpages here: https://www.medsci.ox.ac.uk/study/bms/applying/admissions-statistics

You probably are slightly below the curve but that's not an absolute barrier. If you're overly concerned you may wish to consider Cambridge natural sciences instead who tend to look at things more holistically and interview a higher proportion of applicants.
