The Student Room Group

Hi guys im currently in year 11!!

- doing my GCSEs next year
- aiming for 6s and above across all subjects but my tiers in science and maths r preventing me from it
- predicted a 4 in foundation maths (kinda bummed cus I got predicted a five in my recent mocks last year) and predicted a 55 in combined science

If anyone has any tips support or anything to bump up my grade, revise effectively for these two subjects and get high grades please tell!!

Free science lessons is actually really good. He seems kinda boring at first but if u do aqa he covers all the content and i js find that I remember the stuff he says. Also just keep doing past papers and ik everyone says that but it rlly helps. Gl

Yeah, agreed: free science lessons is great for AQA at least. Obviously use things like PMT they helped me a lot. I also bought savemyexams which was pretty useful (not so much now in y12) I also got tutoring from some guys in the year abvoe, lmk if you want the details they were pretty cheap. gl tho, don't worry too much!

I liked the Cognito website for combined science as long as you actually engage with the videos, do the questions after and make use of its practice questions too. In general, just practice questions for every topic as there’s only so much they can ask and it helps you apply your knowledge. Also, past papers are really useful to see what they frequently ask and get used to the question style. By the time the GCSEs came round I was almost exclusively doing past papers then filling in any gaps in knowledge after. Good luck 🤞

ALSO a really go way to learn using short videos like Cognito or Free Science Lessons is to watch them then write down everything you remember from it afterwards on a big piece of paper/whiteboard. Then rewatch and add what you missed. It means you can be confident in your knowledge and be sure you didn’t just zone out when watching

I absolutely hated maths but I went from a 5 to a 7 so I’ll try to help. Id say just do past papers consistently from now. Start with one a week now and increase closer to the exams. Make sure you mark it properly and if you’re not sure where you’d get marks ask your teacher. Afterwards, write a list of the topics you got wrong and use maths genie to revise them. I also really recommend Corbet maths 5 a day. Overall, maths is just practicing as many questions as possible. Hope this helps 😁
