do they send interview invitations on one single day or across several days

Hi @cha-ace!

Although the Medical School do not release this information officially, in my experience, interview invitations/decisions are generally sent across several days. In Sixth Form when I applied to the Medicine course, one of my friends received an interview offer from Sheffield several days before I did. My advice re awaiting decisions is to try not to panic (easier said than done, I know!) as there is always the chance that you will receive an interview offer up until you are officially told otherwise 🙂.

Good luck everyone in your applications! If anyone has any more questions about Medicine here at Sheffield please do ask away and we will get back to you when we can!😊

Hi there @Reascat123!
I believe Sheffield start sending out their interview offers well before the Christmas holidays, I'm afraid I'm not too sure of the exact time, however I know for my entry year interview offers were sent out over a period of time so don't be disheartened if others hear back for you. In terms of when interviews take place, the website states: 'Multiple mini-interviews for 2026 entry will take place between 19 January and 6 February 2026. Online panel interviews will take place on 8, 9, 12 and 13 January 2026.'
Hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything else I can help with 🙂

Hi, just have questions regarding the course structure and learning style - I couldn’t find a definite answer on how Sheffield teach because apparently it’s a bit of a mix. How do you find the course structure and learning style?

Out of curiosity, how do your grades and exams work - I heard that you don’t have exams in the middle of the course…?

Hiya @rubyrizz!

Sheffield has an integrated curriculum, in your first 2 years you have 3-4 hours of lectures every day, accompanied by a GP placement session once every 2 weeks, an ILA session (small group discussion) every 2 weeks and in first year an anatomy session every 2 weeks as well. There are also SSC deadlines throughout the year which is purely self-directed; there are 3 deadlines in first year and one main one in second year. I definitely think the contact time is great, I've heard with other medical schools there are much fewer contact hours and lots of the content is delivered online, but having lectures and small groups to attend helps to build a routine, holds yourself accountable to complete the work and helps to build networks and friendships with your peers.

The curriculum is also supportive for exams, you have one written set at the end of each first and second year, then there is an exam in the middle of the third and fourth academic years, although they are placed at the end of your phases of medical school (just another way of dividing the years up), and then finals! So there definitely are exams throughout the course, just possibly less frequently than some other medical schools have them. There are also regular formative assessments (so grades which don't contribute to your mark for the year) and these take place with ILA in first and second year, and then in other forms through the rest of the years.

The grading system for summative assessments is initially a pass or fail, and then you receive a letter grade A-E with traffic light feedback as well.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions

Hi - I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question but do you know how much weight Sheffield place on GCSEs? It just mentions minimum requirements on their website but I know some unis say that but actually prioritise much higher grades. Thank you

@Aspire2025 it would be highly unethical to publish the scoring mechanism and actually use different selection criteria behind the scenes.

As long as you meet minimum requirements for GCSE they don't place any weight on GCSE at all for interview selection. They select for interview by ranking based on UCAT scrore (unless you are a widening parcipitation candidate then, you just need minumum UCAT). In either case, GCSE is not used for interview selection. This is all detailed online here: https://sheffield.ac.uk/smph/undergraduate/medicine-admissions#stage-2

Hi @Aspire2025,

I can see that someone has responded correctly above but just wanted to confirm the same- Sheffield Medical School do not use GCSE's (aside from ensuring you meet the minimum) as part of their admissions process. Further information on the admissions process can be found here.

If anyone has any more questions about the admissions process or Medicine at Sheffield more generally, please do let us know! I have really enjoyed the course so far.😊

Slightly stressed since I haven’t heard back from them, apparently rejections get sent out after invites do

Reply 37

Sheffield conducted some interviews with home applicants in December last year. They started inviting mid-November.

This year they aren't doing any home interviews in December, but they said they planned to send invitations in December and rejections by end of December. So far, they've only invited some international applicants - no home students yet.

Invites should go out this or next week for home applicants, as they will be closed for 🎄.

I see on reddit that some have received it today? But I also don't know whether they are lying or not... there seems to be another thread suggesting that they might be!! Why do people do this?!
