It looks like they were false reports.

I know right. ok fair enough that person did receive an invite, but then to say 'oh they've only sent one batch out and that's it...'!?!??! (I don't know which computer system will be able to cope with I don't know... 600 emails sent out at the same time?)

You can send thousands of emails at one time, that's not an issue, there are tools for that.
Forums are full of trolls though. Always take any information with a grain of salt.
